SJE Uniform Guidelines

Three smiling children stand together, wearing different outfits. The way we dress influences our attitude about ourselves and our work. When students are dressed appropriately for school, they are better able to focus on learning. Our uniform dress code policy provides students with a feeling of pride, unity and school spirit.

  • The SJES uniform dress code policy is directly linked to the Charlotte County Public Schools Code of Student Conduct.
  • Uniforms should always be neat and clean.
  • The principal will make the final determination in response to any questions about appropriate uniforms.
  • Non-uniform days will be announced at the discretion of the administration.
  • Loaner uniforms will be provided to students who do not comply with the dress code.
  • Any health or religious reasons for not complying with the uniform dress code should be discussed with the principal.
  • The superintendent may review serious objections to this policy.

Adoption of SJE Uniform Policy

In the fall of 2000, the Tiger Growl newsletter began publishing information about uniforms. In July of the following year, we began having fashion shows for our students and parents. When the original vote was tallied in the fall of 2001, 78% of our parents, 71% of our students and 90% of our staff were in favor of uniforms. Our SAC Committee approved uniforms for Sallie Jones in the winter of 2001. In the fall of 2001, Sallie Jones Elementary was designated a “uniform school,” and the Charlotte County School Board approved our uniform plan in the spring of 2002.

Uniforms were implemented at Sallie Jones in the fall of 2002. In the fall of 2005, we revised and updated the policy, creating the plan that is in effect today. In 2013 hunter green shirts were retired and orange shirts were added. We appreciate the hard work and dedication of our PTO and SAC in helping to create our uniform plan. On January 9, 2018, the School Board of Charlotte County approved the extension of the Sallie Jones Elementary School Uniform Dress Code Policy.  The CCPS School-Based Uniform Dress Code Policy is number 5511.01.
