Preparing Tomorrow's Leaders Today

Positive Behavior Interventions & Supports (PBIS)

How does PBIS work?

SJE utilizes PBIS to support the development of leadership in our students by instilling both our ROAR expectations and the 8 Habits.

Tiered levels of support are offered to address student needs and increase success.

Create a Positive Environment

Through research-validated strategies, our team seeks to design, maintain, and implement a framework for positive school culture. Through incentives and systems, we are able to foster students’ growth and learning. We celebrate accomplishments and hard work in academic, social, and behavioral areas. Studies show this leads to improved student outcomes and a more successful educational experience for the students of the school community.

ROAR ExpectationsA chart titled 'Tiger Leaders ROAR at Sallie Jones' outlines classroom expectations for students in different areas of the school.

Rewards:

Any staff member can award Tiger Points to student who are displaying our ROAR expectations. Students can check their points in Focus and track points that they have earned and spent throughout the year.  Students can earn a Tiger Pride Award from a staff member for following the 8 Habits. They will be able to sign their grade level chart and participate in  a hallway dance party.

Goals of PBIS

  • To teach and encourage positive behavior
  • To provide interventions to increase success
  • To recognize students when behavior expectations are met
  • To maximize instructional time

School-Wide Behavior Plan

  • Spend more time promoting responsible behavior than responding to irresponsible behavior
  • Recognize that misbehaviors, especially chronic misbehaviors, occur for a reason and to take that into account when determining how to respond
  • Give instructional consequences more often that exclusionary ones

What can parents do to help their child stay on the path to positive behavior?

  • Review the SJE behavior expectations (ROAR and the CCPS Code of Conduct)
  • Ask your child about their day at school
  • Make sure your child is ready, arrives on time, and has a good night’s sleep
  • Keep in touch with your child’s teachers
  • Incorporate opportunities to display responsible, optimistic, attentive, and respectful behavior
